The Park was snowbound for a month.
In fact, this January was colder and snowier than last, but it seemed that the whole of Winter would not be. It remained cold into February, but not frigid, and there were no storms to match last year's eighteen inches on Presidents’ Day.
Finally, the icy crust began to relent.
By the end of the month the only snow lay in shadowed corners and on sun-shy slopes.
The Reservoir, however, was slow to melt, but its central channel made a perfect setting for a rare visitor: a Glaucous Gull, all in white, as wintry a bird as one could wish for.
It stayed for more than a week before departing, and, we were hoping, taking the season with it.
Time to look for some sign of Spring…
