Getting a drink is one of the few things worth coming out of hibernation for.
Birds don’t hibernate, and some have gotten more than they bargained for this Winter. Ducks and Gulls are adapted to it, but the deep freeze forces them into concentrated flocks wherever there is open water, creating an almost arctic scene.
Mostly Mallards, along with Ring-billed Gulls, but we do get a few other characters around here, and since the Groundhog seems to have gone back to bed, I’ll give this one the last word.
A single Laughing Gull has been among the birds at the Meer, and with a good six weeks left, its eponymous call can speak for the season, as it issues its hearty “Ha-ha!”
