No one mentioned Basil Wolverton last night.
b.1909, his bio
Actually John and I were discussing him at the other end of the table.
Apocalypse Then
AAA Aardvark "Wolverton" likns including Spacehawk
I collected those first Plops as a kid and was very impressed when my mother recognized the work of Wolverton. She told me that in the late 40's or early 50's Al Capp held a contest for the readers of Lil'Abner to draw the worlds ugliest woman, the winning entry was to be published in the strip. My mother sent in a drawing but Wolverton won. She conceeded that his entry was far uglier. Last Fall I was looking through the closets of my parents new house and found those plops neatly stacked on a shelf. My parents have moved 3 times since I flew the coop.

That's one hell of an apocalypse! Right up there with Durer.
But leave us not forget the ever atrocious (no to mention bigoted) Jack Chick.
