Stella Art(ois)
"....an artist in decline." (!!!) we are still in for a 3pm gallery visit and then drinks and a bite someplace.
I’m not sure if “decline” is the right word, but I do think of Stella as sort of equivalent to Dylan: someone who made such powerful work, so in tune with the time, so influential, that he could never really match it once the times they had a-changed. They get a free pass for life, but anyone who tells me that Time Out of Mind or the giant metal reliefs are the equal of what was done in the sixties is nuts.
Unless the birding is really spectacular on Saturday I should be able to make it in to see the show.
Mid-late 80's the giant messy relief French curve paintings were killing me. But almost at the same time he was doing large scale freestanding silver (mill sweepings) space junk pieces that were (to me) near the top of his game. Since then I don't know what. Hes got scale going for him at least.
Ok, we cant come in after all. Possible reschedule for Thursday this week?
Gonna try this again thurs (tomorrow). Gallery closes at 5:30. Me and aw heading up I suppose by 4:30. Will reconfirm the time later.
Ok. We are meeting there at 3 Thursday.
Only two hours late seeing this. See you later at J&Bs?
The color of industry: Stella Judd Warhol
