Just found this June 12, 2012 NYTimes obit for graffiti artist Stay High
Bill posted something on him a couple of years ago, that was the first time I'd heard of him.
Awww. Bad news. It looked so sophisticated at the time. Noticed him on a Bronx line coming into manhattan from the mount vernon station on the edge of westchester. I think the 2 line, 1972-4. Also taki. Thanks Steve.
By the time I moved to NYC the insides of cars were covered with tags but graffiti had evolved to the full "masterpiece" style on the outside of the cars. I think older stuff by "stay high" and other writers was pretty much eclipsed or covered over.
whole car wild style.
Pieces still available on his website.
