What? No laptoppers? For the record, I just want to say that the woman who played (clicked) from 11:30 pm to 12:00 am on Aug 8, downstairs at Tonic, was very good; the guitar/sax/laptop ensemble that followed was not so good. I've been trying to track down who she was--the phOnOmena website wasn't very helpful.
there is just something awkward listening to that kind of music in a social setting. id need stronger drugs to dissociate myself in order to hear it. but thats me. and your sensitivity to that type (no pun intended) of music is surely more acute than mine. needs some sort of visual accompaniment too. if i wanted to watch a small asian girl hunched over a keyboard for an hour, ill head to nyu's computer center. but ill agree that once the second act started in on the clarinet, they lost me.
