chips ahoy never quite understood the last lines to the all in the family themesong. thought it was "gro la salle ran great" was some reference to a politician or a high school track team. but i was reading a book about the 20s today and they mentioned general motors had a line of cars called the lasalle. and for whatever reason many hours later i was humming the themesong as i stuffed my face with tortilla chips and i had a revelation not unlike constantine. they were talking about a car! saints be praised. now if i could only figure out who the man is that chico speaks of.
*the lasalle division was created to fill the gaping yaw between the well-off patrons of buicks and the well-to-do owners of cadillacs.
top banana was schooling my travelling companions on johan santana on the ride down only to wake up to find out the mets had wore of attrition. after a soundly reviled trade earlier this offseason and an infamous collapse at the end of last season this comes as welcome news. guess i should leave town more often. and while the mets had to send four of their top five prospects they were able to hold on to fernando martinez who is considered their most promising.
some have concerns about santanas longterm health but pitchers are always a crapshoot and despite a down year last season he still was fifth in the cy young voting, an award he received twice in the preceding four years. the mets would be overjoyed to have down seasons of that nature. so the mets have a true ace in his prime something they cannot have said since dwight goodens early career flameout.
here are his career stats.

rejected! “Just for Men prefers that Hernandez’s mustache be of a continually dark hue; the company does not mind if he keeps his hair dark, too, but his deal is strictly facial. Two executives have the additional corporate assignment of contacting him when they spot his color fading and suggest that it is time for a touch-up.
the outcry for more sports related posts was louder than a stadium full of thunderstick wielding rally monkeys. According to the story, an anonymous contributor, whom Deadspin editor Will Leitch calls "a respected journalist," was flirting in a bar with an attractive woman wearing leather pants. However, his efforts proved unsuccessful when Berman, who was in Scottsdale to cover baseball spring training, walked by and told the woman "You're with me, leather." The woman immediately got up and left the bar with Berman.
needle park much hullaballo over the mitchell report today. names are named as to those who are identified as having used steroids. the actual number of users is likely much higher but 60 to 80 players are named including roger clemens and andy pettite. the report goes live on espn at 2pm.
havent had any heat for the last few days. went out to get some dumplings and wonton soup and ran into the landlords friend standing by the oil truck. i asked if that was for us, and he said yes but that we wouldnt have heat today. apparently they were removing oil rather than refilling. somehow we had gotten the wrong oil. i didnt press him on the details. im sure theres a chanukah joke in there somewhere. who knew there were different types of heating oil?
