And we're off.
In a car headed for the tribeca grand departure. Very tired. What a night. Remind me to never take a job cutting out little stars.
Yee-ha.
Probably you can't see these because it's still too dark. The busses are super plush. Organization is amazing. Let's go.
There are 3 buses: 31, 22, and 16 seats. We're on the 16 which seems like the nicest. We bought those motorolla walkie talkies but they barely work. Cell phones are proving more reliable.
The first round of mimosas has knocked some of our wind out. I meant to write something yesterday about the whole "rockstar" theme we've come together under. Obviously it's tongue in cheek. The idea is that anybody who makes the effort to be politically involved is a star.
It started with a small group of us going to the nyc protest. We were disappointed. It was unfocused, poorly attended, and not any fun. We wanted to see if we could make this sort of activity fun. Glamorous. We'll see. We're certainly decked out for some fun.
But yes it's serious. I mean we're the ones on the road for 10 hours in one day...
Probably too dark in here, but this screen is so bad they might be better than I think.First pit stop coming up.
That last post was actually written at 8:30. I've been without any data connection since then.
The big bus broke down. We're at a rest stop. The two buses have gone to get the big bus people, and then we'll all be here. I have no idea what's going to happen.
There are some video games here...
Still at the rest area. We're learning cheers and dances in the parking lot. People are not sure what to make of us.
Here's some action from inside the rest area. The reporter keeps asking if being stuck here is a metaphore for the anti war movement...
Still here...
Rumors keep going through the crowd that a replacement bus is coming. I fear these are just rumors. In the meantime we had a photo shoot.
Wait! The bus is here!
And we're off. Everyone is in good spirits. Janet is already in DC. We talked to her on the phone and she said the march doesn't start until 1:30. We had thought 11:00, so we still could make it at a reasonable time. Our drivers are really cool and promised to drive fast. They were dancing with us too.
Prince is cranking. And we're flying south on the NJ turnpike gettin' funky.
Ready to rock
Finally inside DC. Janet says the march still hasn't started.
Traffic is heavy now.
We're here. Completely impossible to tell how many people are here or what is going on.Super nice weather.
Andrew briefly took over the crowd with some inventive chants.
We're back in the bus now. 18th and H.
Fun day. Our group got separated from the other groups, so we missed out on all the choreographed dance numbers. But it was fun walking through the city. Lots of people.
It's hard keeping track of such a large group. On the other hand it doesn't really matter. We all seemed to make it back.
Heading to the afterparty now. Turns out to be only a few blocks away. Dinner there, and we should be on the road around 9:00.
