The Guardian is running an article on the seven wonders of the web. They are, according to the article: Google, Yahoo, Project Gutenburg, Multimap, Ebay, Amazon, and Blogger. The only one I hadn't heard of is Multimap. At first glance it looks pretty useful. My own list would probably tend more towards: Google, Google Images, Google Groups, and uh.... Google, Google, Google, and Google. God I hope they are profitable. I think I'd even send them money if they asked. As Jason Kottke famously opined: "Google is the default command-line interface to the Web."
scary thing happened to me today when i thought about a site i wanted to go to and went to google instead to type it into their window. need a name for this phenomenon, defeating the browser url window, the true sign of a monster webservice. oh, and by the way, hi and happy holidays!
whoa jim. youve really got the heavy hitters hanging out on your page. a post from old saint nick and so close to christmas no less. you figure hes chilling in the bahamas once hes cracked his last tin of biscuits on boxing day. alas, he is like the rest of us, surfing the net late in the evening wondering if that device on that infomercial really can burn fat without exercise. santa himself refuses to carry anything from the "as seen on tv" collection otherwise he would have sampled it already. but he has made an exception for those chiapets. i think possibly his brother-in-law owned part of the company, or maybe that was just part of his twisted sense of humor.
so, how goes the jihad, general claus? have you clustered bombed many chimneys this year? if i could ask for one thing this season(and its not for me but for the wee ones)id ask for a good ranking on the google search for my friends and neighbors, or anyone else willing to pay me for that service. not too much to ask for, probably easier than delivering a playstation2. although i imagine you purchase those in bulk, so with the saving who knows.
also im wondering, since youre here, is there any connection between your elves and the ones i occasionally hallucinate? again, im not asking for myself, its really for the children. they are a curious lot.
Hey Nicholas. Nice to see you around. I'm assuming you have New Years plans, but I'm sending you an invite by email anyway.
Don't be a stranger.
