I've been laughing to defectiveyeti, maccers, and mimi smartypants which is sure better than a poke in the eye.
I still take my guilty pleasure in debka, and now thanks to dave I have added defensetech to the list of politico/military sites I don't know why I read.
Kevin Werbach's blog is a must for telecommunication industry watchers. Reiter's Wireless Data Web Log is just that. And you already knew about Glenn Fleishman's 802.11b News, even if you didn't know that it's been renamed Wi-Fi News.
I mentioned this before, but don't forget William Gibson's new blog. If you miss a day make sure you hit the archive, because he only shows the most recent day on the first page.
And if you really can't get enough Apple in your life Dave Hyatt (formerly of mozilla followed by Chimera fame, and now one of the men behind Apple's new Safari browser) has a (new) weblog Surfin' Safari. OSXAudio keeps up with - yes it's true - the world of OS X Audio. And speaking of which, here are a bunch of applescripts for iTunes. And also, OS X now has it's own category at freshmeat so you can find cool free software that you may or may not be able to figure out how to get running.
Don't say I never did anything for you. Updated sidebar links for this page coming real soon now.
I never did anything for you & still your kindness is unending. Now that I know a little about your mom's mom I'd say you are sound enough to clone. & hey, Dad of Jim! you really need to toss your
two cents in here soon so you can at least claim you were in before the hoi polloi.
I love Gibson's promise to keep it regular in his initial entry(1.6.03).
"In spite of (or perhaps because of) my reputation as a reclusive quasi-Pynchonian luddite shunning the net (or word-processors, depending on what you Google) I hope to be here on a more or less daily basis."
"...reclusive quasi-Pynchonian luddite.." What poetry.
We are all reclusive quasi-Pynchonian luddites now
When you see Mr. Kurtz tell him from me that everything here is very satisfactory. I don't like to write to him - with those messengers of ours you never know who may get hold of your letter - at that Central Station. Me, I'm just pumping up the Daisy for the next round of the ethical treatment of animals.
Mistah Kurtz, he dead.
frank, i totally had to have john interpret this for me. ok, so mr. kurtz is a character from a joseph conrad novel that he says i should have read in high school, but didn't. are you shooting cats with a bb gun? love to you kris and ren!
C'mon Jim Louis, set this flamer straight; she claims to be your fan.
from what i understand of internet ettiquette, flaming is a bad thing. don't mind me; i'm just a too literal blockhead, and i should probably stick to the weather report and my yahoo soap opera synopsis.
Um, you think you could ask John to interpret more of Franks posts?
Was that babble? I thought it was a whimper. Like they say, "this is the way the Word ends..."
Oh East Midland. I read it as Middle Eastern. Sorry Alex, I had to edit my comment as it mis-represented my sentiments.
The quote from Heart of Darkness, uttered by one by one of Kurtz's downstream servers, was meant to be the voice of that quasi Pynchonian luddite recluse who writes email from NOLA & spends some of his free time shooting stray dogs in the ass with his BB gun. Dramatic monologues, kids, are there to entertain not instruct. If I have offended anyone I can only say get used to it. The 'set this flamer straight' was an obscure allusion to the first comment Dave ever made to one of my posts; a kind of blogger's baptism, if you will. I mean everyone must agree that Phillip K. Dick was the saddest man that ever lived, no? Well, Steve won't agree but he's an bona fide Holyman of the Eyeballs. Like I've said before; a poet with alot of brains is like a dog with a million dollars & nothing lasts forever but a poetry reading. I hope this reassures everyone that I really am the biggest crackpot on the tree.
So who do you think would win in a fight, Brando as Kurtz, or Brando as Corleone?
Too close to call unless of course Kurtz wants to lose. Then again that wheelchair could be a real drag to defend.
I'd be more interested in the outcome of a Corleone/Kurtz oral debate.
You were supposed to say "Jor-el", at which point I say, let's leave Nietzsche out of this…
STELLA!!!!!
Well Stanley's a loser for sure. I like Frank, but Joseph is worth a look…
it's tough to tango in a wheelchair.
and their cookies are jewlicious!
All this thread needs now to become the perfect simulacre of indurate mentation is butter. Prosit !
Oh yeah, that's me shooting wild dogs with the BB gun, Pam. I imagine myself the protector of Shorty. Shorty's the cat in the top left picture on my page. She's wild. A vacant house (the dancehall) where many of the cats lived was torn down recently so when the dogs pass by there are less places for the cats to hide and they sometimes get eaten. I know shooting animals with a BB gun is not a nice thing but I occasionally do it anyway. As far as Frank's comment goes I just wasn't sure if I was supposed to be Kurtz or somebody else was Kurtz or just how upset Frank was because of my unethical treatment of animals. So I was pretending to be mute. Anyway, most things rely on context, as Kurtz would tell you. In the context of my environment, shooting with a BB gun very aggressive roaming wild dogs does not weigh that much, even though a part of me still regrets doing it.
I've had to shoot a dog myself & part of me still regrets it as well. I am honored by your candor, Jim Louis, & continue to read eNOLA with interest & horror but I get to be Kurtz, dude, I mean
I'm the one up here at the end of your old muddy river over there.
how does one measure sadness??
Perhaps the simple ratio of productivity over satisfaction yields a coefficient of sadness; in Dick's case we are looking at a very very large number, in my case we are looking at a very small fraction. Otherwise, the eyes have it & many sensitive cultures have complex prohibitions regarding looking anyone in the eyes.
I eye senor!!
