[update: Here's the Monday 3.24 link - I'll keep this at the top of the left hand column from now on.]
[update: Here's the Sunday 3/23 link]
[update: Here's the Saturday 3/22 link]
Quick low bandwidth Iraq headlines at a glance from the BBC. No links. No analysis. No fluff.
[Update: the BBC is changing the link every day. Here it is for Friday 3/21/03.]
[double update - updated link fixed - thanks Tom!]
Hey, looks like Canada looks to Jimslog for the real skinny. Y'all check out the abuddhas memes link down on yer left today.
Too bad Debka's leads look like they were false.
Could this have been the story behind all the Aziz confusion? E-mail:
"Rich, This is from Bloomberg, sorry no link: 'The U.S. targeted the leaders after engineering reports yesterday that Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz had defected, Sky News reported, citing unidentified offficials. The reports prompted Azia to go on live television yesterday to prove his loyalty, allowing the U.S. to track the source of the transmission and follow Aziz's movements, Sky reported.' In other words, we flushed out Aziz, followed him, and made him drop a dime on Saddam without him knowing it." That's an unidentified email to Rich Lowry at the nationalreview.
D'oh! The BBC is changing the URL for this page every day! Hello? I was wondering why they stopped updating...
Here's the link for today. To find it tomorrow you'll have to go here and click on 'War Diary'.
This is such a great page it's ashame someone made such a stupid decision. Thanks to Tim Bray for the clue.
Thanks--I was wondering what happened.
And it looks like you have to click "printable version" to strip the dumb graphics and such.
No, wait--how do I get to the low-bandwith update page from the front page? I don't see "War Diary"--only "Iraq War at a glance," which has graphics.
The 'War diaries' link is in the middle of the 'In Depth | conflict with Iraq page I linked to above. Also, now I see it on the front page as well (left side of center column, halfway down the page.)
Of course, both those links take you to the high bandwidth version of the War Diary page. To get the low bandwidth version you have to substitute 'low' for 'hi' in the URL. This always works for all BBC news pages. And like you mentioned, the printable version is even better.
The "War Diaries" is some kind of reporter's blog. "Iraq Latest--At-a-glance" at the top of the "in depth" page has the headlines. Your links are going to two different things.
You're right. Thanks. Changing it now. This is the friday page.
The reporter's blog is worth a look too.
