Hersh's piece is the trigger -- he gets the inside sources and he got the goods on Richard Perle. But this is the first time that right-wing pundits have criticized Bush advisors and his cabinet. Do they see a stalled war as a threat to GWB's re-election chances?
Right wing pundits have been criticizing Bush; it just depends on which right wing you're reading. Robert Novak, Charley Reese, Pat Buchanan, Justin Raimondo and many other self-professed paleoconservatives have been quite outspoken against the war from the beginning. They hate neoconservatives going back to the era when the latter were Stalinists. David "Axis of Evil" Frum recently called the paleos, including Novak, "unpatriotic" in a National Review column. Here's a response from Novak and Raimondo.

Rumsfeld has been dealing with Saddam since the Reagan Administration. This may all be a big ax to grind.
