Weird tiny Minox DD1 digital camera. Can you wear it on a necklace?
Yo Jim, the Nature Conservancy has this GPS weed mapping data dictionary for a Palm Pilot kindve device so you can use a recreational GPS but use the data entry capability of the (what is the generic term for what the Palm Pilot is an example of?). I would like to have a hand held data entry device with a digital camera and GPS, or at least what you mentioned before, a digital camera that attaches a spatial reference (coordinates) to each image. What would you recomend?
PDA is the generic term for a palm pilot like device. Typically these devices either run the Palm operating system, or Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system. Both companies license their OS's to other companies, so you can find Palm OS devices, and Pocket PC OS devices, from a number of manufacturers. Software that runs on the Palm OS needs a Palm OS device in order to run. So it sounds like you need a Palm OS device - but, again, this doesn't necessarily mean a product made by Palm.
As far as I know, the only PDA with built in GPS is this one from Garmin. And it runs the Palm OS, so it looks like a good fit. No camera though. And a little pricey (but that's what you get for being on the cutting edge.) No doubt in 3 or 4 months this type of thing will be much cheaper. Also, I expect to see GPS on expansion cards, in which case you could add it to any PDA. But if you need it now it is there.
Motorolla just announced a new PDA / phone / camera / GPS unit: the A920.
