Now you tell me! It turns out there is a setting in iTunes that causes the program to automatically fetch CD track information, rip the CD, and then eject it, every time you put a new CD in the drive. It's a small thing, but it would have made my life a little bit easier lately had I known this.
Necessary (for me) advice from that comment thread: Remember to check the option: "connect to Internet when needed". If you do not do that, itunes will rip the CD without going to CDDB to grab the track names.
Also, here's an applescript to rip multiple CDs unattended (assuming you have more than one CD drive.) "Tested successfully on systems with up to ten CD drives."
