I've always had wildcarding turned on in the main mail account on this domain. This has meant that any mail sent to x at digitalmediatree.com, where x does not match a real mailbox, falls through into the main account where I receive it. This was handy because I would catch misspelled names and forward them to their intended recipients, and also because I could just make up crazy email addresses on the fly knowing that any address I wanted to use would be automatically valid.
But the spam is finally too much. Even with pretty good filters. It had been hovering at around 500 spams a day, but then in the past few days jumped to over 700, and now this morning there were over 2,000 spams waiting for me (that is since late yesterday afternoon!)
So I turned wildcarding off. Any email sent to a nonexistent mailbox at this domain will now bounce. No big deal really, but I thought I'd mention it. And maybe that makes you feel better about your spam problem.
Jim does not like spam, Jim should avoid spam. Spambegone, Spamaway, Spamalamadingdong.
Did you say make up crazy email adresses on the fly...why that sounds exactly like the kind of spam I received way back when during the probably now nearly forgotten conflagration of Frank's word. You know, how for a period of a few weeks , I received, at the rate of one or two a day, emails with more than a passing conspicuous resemblance to the snarky spew I was chucking up on the tree. Hmmm? Is anyone ever going to fess up to it? Is blogging really any more than the technological reductio ad absurdam of sixth grade girls passing secret notes in class. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing , mind you, any more than being a moron is a bad thing. No,to be a bad thing one would have to actually be something, say an art critic or an architecture buff say, someone so ossified by the imbecile subsets of their terminological misunderstandings that the merest hint of a scoff sends them scurrying for sticks & stones.Well I scoff no longer. Now I fart in y'alls general direction.
Jeez Frank, a tad sore are we ? Maybe you haven't heard: Rick James is dead.
....but nobody likes to be called a freak. Crack. Talk about a free man...now that man was a free man. Fly on, Superfreak!
Wildcarding has to do with receiving email, not sending it. But anyone with more than basic computer knowledge can send email from a forged address. I thought I had explained this before when it first happened. So yes, I can send email from any imaginary address, as can almost anyone (certainly anyone with access to a unix command line.) But no, again, I have never sent you any emails from a forged address. Nor have I ever sent you any unfriendly emails from a real or forged address.
I'm sorry this issue still bothers you. I find it hard to believe that you think I would do this. But I obviously don't understand much about you.
As for your dislike of blogs in general, and this one in particular, I can recommend the simple solution of not reading it.
Well, first, I know you didn't send me any nasty anonymous emails; I may not like some of your opinions but I have absolutely no doubts regarding your honesty. I believed you the first time you told me, Jim; but someone around these parts did send them. Second, I do not dislike blogs; I simply think they are much sillier & far less important than their boosters claim. I also think poetry is silly; perhaps much sillier than blogs, architecture or art criticism. Time will tell, or maybe it won't. As far as not understanding much about me I say: bullshit, Jim. My contempt for stupidity & pomposity in writing is nearly bottomless; in life my patience for these human qualitiies is vaste, after all I have to live with myself. I said fuck a Stephen Hawking 20 years ago. Go ask Alice.
