The Treo 650 is on sale now directly from Sprint (warning: link to very dorky treo message board.) Might possibly be only available to current Sprint customers (there is some mixed experiences here.) $599 with $150 rebate for Sprint customers of 18 months or longer.
Okay, this phone rocks. The question is: does it make any sense at all to buy such an expensive mobile device when it can't be used on any of the new high speed wireless networks?
I guess I will put minor Treo links in here.
Drag 'n 'tooth looks like an essential app for OS X users with bluetooth and any bluetooth Palm device. Lets you just drag and drop files from the Mac to the Palm without going through an entire Hot Sync. Very cool. Free downloadable demo, program costs $9.95.
Hardcore Treo users are complaining about the memory situation. The 650 has the same RAM as the 600, but thanks to a new file system actually has somewhere around 25% less usable room (on the plus side, you no longer lose any data if you let the phone run completely out of power.) People with thousands of contacts are running into trouble. Not a big deal for me since I only know 12 people, but I thought I would mention it.
Also, Sprint had disabled the bluetooth DUN profile, so although you could sync data over bluetooth, or use a bluetooth headphone, you couldn't use it as a wireless modem for your computer. Sprint had said they would be offering this feature in a future update, but the jury was out on whether or not to believe them. Well, less than a week after release, someone has already cracked it and enabled DUN. Dun-Da-Dun-Dun!
