Outside my area of expertise, but maybe Mark will comment with some actual knowledge. Apple announced ProRes 422 at NAB:
Enter Apple ProRes 422, a new format designed for pristine HD quality, economical hardware configurations, yet high-performance, multistream Final Cut Pro real-time editing - for both high-defi nition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) formats. Apple ProRes 422 features:

- The quality of uncompressed HD at data and storage rates lower than uncompressed SD.

- Performance comparable to or better than the existing HD codecs in Final Cut Pro.

- The ability to work with HD on slower drives, and with more users on shared storage.
Here's Apple's ProRes 422 white paper.

I'm at the show. Battery about to die. Heard about it yesterday. Heard there was excitement at the announcement. Have no idea what the technology is. I'll read the paper.

The white paper isn't there anymore. I'm taking a wild guess here ... if standards-based it's JPEG2000 or I-frame-only AVC.

Works for me. Maybe they took it down temporarily. (Or: it is a .pdf so maybe it's downloading and not displaying in your browser?)

What else are you seeing? Did you see the Red One camera? (Apple's ProRes 422 will work somehow with this camera.)

Also, Adobe announced Adobe Media Player which looks to be a Quicktime and Windows Media Player competitor. This could be a good thing, or just Flash on steroids with DRM baked in, depending on your point of view.

I've been pulling lots of booth duty, so I haven't had a chance to see much.

Hope it's going well.

Lots of traffic. I'm subbing for a marketing guy who had to travel overseas, so I'm working the booth far more than I have in years. I've also had people dropping by to pitch their chips, SW, etc. to us.
