The new server, cedar.datamantic.com, should go online tomorrow. Won't make much of a difference to anyone on the outside, but it will add a large measure of redundancy to my setup giving me a little more peace of mind.
cedar was a good choice.
and it's resistant to link rot.
Thanks again for the venue.
Mark: LOL.
Well, it didn't go exactly as planned. I thought I could put the switch in without a reboot but it didn't work. Seems like it should be possible (ifconfig eth0 down; unplug ethernet and put the switch in; ifconfig eth0 up) but upon completion the network was unreachable. So I had to reboot the server. No problems coming back up (unlike last time when /tmp went missing.) But this caused a few minutes of downtime. Anyway, cedar is now up but not fully functioning. I can ssh in though so at least I can fix things up remotely. Spending a couple hours in the data center is not good for my hearing.
