Well it's March 4th, and time to march forth. In that spirit I am announcing the launch of Geneva, my web publishing platform.
Geneva will be in a not very restricted closed beta as I iron out some kinks, but large parts of it are definitely usable. Drop me a line if you'd like to try it out.
Is that what you have been doing over there, day-in and day-out, head down at your computer? Hurrah! Yahoo! Congratulations! How many years in the making?
what is it what does it do, will it make you rich so we can get that commune we always wanted for our old age??
Geneva says (we) surrender!
Good work Jim.
yay, congrats!
Great news, congratulations. I will email.
what is it? Congrats!
the finest iin Swiss technology!
It's just my general purpose web building software. I guess it's something like a CMS (content management system) but a little different then what's out there. Your site (Sarah) is built on an old version of it. Digitalmediatree is built on a super old version of it (like the second out of fifty versions.) But this is the newest version, and the first one that is really fit for outside consumption.
Right now it's really only of interest to people who know at least a little bit about building web sites. It allows people who, for instance, know just enough to code an HTML page to create full sites with user management, auto registration, permissions, blogs, bulletin boards, search, uploading, etc... Geneva takes care of all the coding for you. And the cool part, from my perspective is how easy it is for me to add new modules. So tons more features coming like photo galleries, calendars, outlines, etc...
It's something like WordPress or Drupal I guess, but with a slightly different emphasis. I'm going to try to make a screencast of building a site with it so people can see what it is.
I guess if I wanted to be more web2.0 I'd name it genevr. I can buy genevr.com. And it's kind of a nice pun since aside from the city to which we are connected, genever is a tasty gin like alcohol that we brought back from Amsterdam and have always enjoyed. But I think the cool sites that end in 'r' are maybe passe now.
go jim go!!
I was going to ask about image galleries.
Word Press has the ability to upload to folders but nothing like the tree's image archive. It's interesting to me that blogger has everyone using flickr or photobucket for their images.
I'd love to see it, Jim.
Congrats! you could call it Jimnevr
Thanks for the words of support everyone. I've been coding like crazy this week. At least 10 hours a day. It's so fun to be in the zone. Especially when everything is coming together.
A few people have expressed interest, and I haven't forgotten you. Emails are coming soon. I've just been swamped this week and I keep wanting to make last minute changes before I give it out. But next week for sure.
And oh yeah, Jquery absolutely rocks. As if I haven't mentioned that enough in the past.
I was looking for something like the old Netscape Composer that I could use to make html pages.
I found an editor that worked as a Firefox plugin (I think)--it was based on jquery.
Way over my head (not saying it's not awesome). I ended up downloading Seamonkey, which has an updated clone of Netscape Composer.
