Lane, 53, was shot in his abdomen as he enjoyed the holiday from a rickety folding chair outside his front door. He was caught in the crossfire, police said, as unidentified gunmen blasted at two rivals who rushed toward Lane and took cover in his second-floor apartment.
Lane was the last victim in a wave of gun violence that tore through New Orleans on Labor Day weekend. Monday was the bloodiest: Six people were shot, two were killed.
