I'm glad I was able to contribute to your obsession. New Orleans is hard to forget once it gets under your skin. It would be great if you went to there with the idea to help. You may need to go through some redefining of what help means over time. I guess I'm just trying to warn you that the demand for help way way overwhelms the supply of helpers. I have a friend on 2600 block of Dumaine who may be selling her (formerly, our) house in the summer. Whether you are interested in the house or not, you might benefit from talking to her. She has invested quite a lot of herself in the arena of reaching out to local youngsters, and might have some useful insights for you. Interested or not, or just want to swap stories, I can be reached here. Shorty (the pictured cat, possibly still alive in NO) and I thank you for your comments.

I am going back down, house sitting for a friend for 3 weeks beginning Saturday. I would like to speak to your friend. I see a lot changing in the city, in the last few years. Yes, it's a city that needs much more invested in its foundation before solid, long lasting 'help' can really turn things around for the poorer residents and their neighborhoods. But ideas are powerful things and areas are comin up, one by one. . . . We really get a lot from talking to everyone we can when we're nosing around people's neighborhoods. It's really interesting and more fun than sitting in my office. I was down there from 95-2001 and can't stay away for more than about 12 weeks. I am lucky. Yeah, and I work hard and do my homework.

Oh, Lorina sounds like a great person, I am glad to hear she invests a lot in friends. I do too. It's nice of you to say you appreciate Lorina, you, who are otherwise so cobby.
You can email me info at le@zzzzz At least for a little while longer.....
