OK, I'm gonna crack. It embarasses me to say that what I really want to know about these is where they came from. (I mean, if that dreamy pale schoolhouse building is really 2.5 pixels of a baby, this could be anything.)
They remind me of old dusty basement curtains from the 50's. So much so, in fact, that I can hardly wait until they join the ranks of Older Posts and get out of my face.
these basement curtains are patterned on close-up details from Mars photos. The bottom two are from jpegs, the upper one was scanned from newsprint.

aw, thanks Bill! My heart cockles are all warm now. These Mars gifs (and a few others) will have another life offline as part of an art installation I'm doing for a Digifest exhibition in May called Robot Landscapes.
