"Based on a true story, this video is the second installment in the series Peace Time Activities that began with Mill's 2004 video LM vs. Leni R. In this new, mercifully short video, Mills continues to toy with recent conventions of reality television and directorial abuse."
Also Andrew J. Paterson, just back from a big do in Calagary, is performing at the Gala at the Gladstone on Thursday and so are Tanya Mars and Miss Canadiana. Also there's a big contingent of groovy nature-kitsch-and-myth with Mary Anne Barkhouse, Fastwurms and Allyson Mitchell all showing in the same building.
Also Lise Brin is hosting another colouring night on Friday! (The last one brought out my dark side.)
And lots of other stuff too...
Lorna and Sandra's tiny video: It has the density of poetry. Goofy, unsettling, puzzling, it's like a throw-off joke. But it's not.
I like how Lorna is toying with exploitation, testing the potential evil -ness of art. Of course Sandra is too.
Don't forget to tell Sandra that you are really excited about the new direction she is taking with the gold spray paint. (it will make her so happy to hear that)
Funny you should mention that, Sally, I was at a TAAFI panel discussion called Who's Left? The state of Left Culture, and the essential goodness of some works were making me a bit crazy. (That said, I still love Carole Conde & Karl Beveridge's art)
Generally, I prefer the stuff that stretches morality slightly out of shape.
(And don't forget to tell Sandra that her Buddha-like demeanour in the video was inspirational.) (She'll be so happy to hear that too.)
