A perfect interpretation of the scene from 'The Algebraist' where the goofy space-whales face off against the human military armada.
If you really really hate spoilers, then you might read some of Iain M. Bank's earlier books for more context first, but not absolutely required.
The thought of a little Iain (M) Banks essay to explain more of this is tempting...
