Sunday Devotionals - Richard Wright (1943-2008) (as suggested by G.V.B.)

"While not as prolific as Roger Waters or Syd Barrett, Richard Wright was just as talented of a songwriter, if not better."

-Von Bark, our resident prog-rock authority.

I always thought the name "progressive rock" was very funny. I could never figure out what exactly those bands were progressing to. Then I thought, wait, I know, they all share left-wing politics, but I don't think that's it either. As a teen, I always associated prog rock with guys who liked to wear robes on stage and have lots of dry ice. I never thought of Pink Floyd as prog rock though. I always considered it stoner rock because in high school, all the "heads" listened to it. I was a teen-aged blues freak at the time.

As a teen I always thought roots purists were pretty funny.

When I was young I used to get Pink Floyd all mixed up in my head with Frijid Pink.

My little cool friends would yell: "THEY'RE NOT THE SAME!"

I would yell back: "I'M SORRY!"

As long as you didn't say, which one's Pink?, I think you're ok.

Some obscure Floyd trivia:

The drum tracks on the recording of 'Remember a Day' were not played by their drummer Nick Mason, but by producer Norman 'Hurricane' Smith (1923- 2008).

I still get Frijid Pink mixed up with Shocking Blue (which I just learned was a Dutch band).

That Norman 'Hurricane' Smith link just brought back horrifying flashbacks of am radio in the family car.
