From R.M.V.:
Really, I don't know why we make art or write poetry or blog or work for a
living. We could just put monkeys in chaps and tie them to dogs and be
happy, totally happy.

Oh, and this:

Of course the monkey is going to crash the segway, all it wants to really do is masturbate.
As for the banana derby, after crunching the numbers, I say: ART GALLERY FUNDRAISER!!!!!!
It's official, I am happy today:
They even have this blurb on their home page:
FAIR MANAGERS :
IF YOU LIKE PIG RACING,
YOU"ll LOVE THE BANANA DERBY
...and we artists love pig racing, don't we?
This made my day, in a big way.
I also watched the neighbourhood hawk capture a flying pigeon and eat it in front of the window by my desk at work, so it was a pretty great day for the animal kingdom all in all.
Did you video tape it!!!!!!!!
No video, but I did photograph this Red-shouldered Hawk working on a squirrel yesterday...
Yay! bloody nature and happy cultivation all in one thread.
I think the hawk would take a monkey given half a chance. But who wouldn't?
just got home to this most excellent thread - oh Happy Day!
Its the most inspirational post we've ever had here. It should be printed up and hung in every college dorm and office cubicle on the planet (as well as coffee mugs and ashtrays.)
No video from me, either. But it looked a lot like that squirrel situation, only with way more feathers flying around.
it did cheer me up, and i have been v. v. depressed of late
I always wanted to be a falconer. And wander around with a raptor on my arm, (monkeys beware).
Last week on Wolf Island I saw a snowy owl perched on a telephone pole. We stopped the car it took off - huge wingspan, deadly silent.
I saw a dog-riding monkey cowboy herding sheep at the Mesquite Rodeo outside Dallas, about 25 years ago. It left an impression (very funny but kinda freaky).
This just shows how depressed we all are in mid-winter. Even a falcon gutting a squirrel, or a monkey on a dog, is considered inspirational. Zeitgeist, stand still while I count your pulse!
ps -- John Updike died today. He wrote 50 some books. First Bernie Mac, now this.
Blood and death. Its not helping my S.A.D.
Which would a falcon take first the dog riding monkey or the "hang in there" cat?
I really love that link. what the fu*k is Kirk doing in there?
