Lee Tiffany - Globface Shapeshifters and the Rest of the Gang at LE Gallery, 1183 Dundas St W., Toronto

DDC (Death Destroyer Crew) Recruits 1-34 2008 Ink on paintchips with earth magnet mount
i saw these chips late 08, and i think they are excellent uses of the vernacular, so fucking strong,
When the actual chips came out about 9 years ago, I loved the marketing ploy. (and I loved grabbing handfuls of them while loudly exclaiming "I just can't make up my mind about colours for the boys' room!") (it was a form of drag)
I was once in a hardware store with Stuart Reid and his partner David Sereda. Stuart started grabbing a whole bunch until David admonished him, saying that he was taking paint chips away from children. Stuart actually considered this and put some back.
its fucking disney, they will have millions in the back. i was thinking about this, and the colours are so intense, and sort of dark, they lack both the princess pastels or the hyperbrights that one expects of the disney aesthetic, ironically, ralph lauren paints were much brighter
According to some friends of mine in film, Disney is a total fascist operation when it comes to their colours. (and everything else about production)
they have a rep for it, which makes me why there is not more overlap b/w the princess line (http://disney.go.com/disneyhome/princess/paint_bedroom2.html) and the mickey line above, but then i find the princess/fairy aesthetic to be an insidious reworking of the original pallettes/aesthetics of disney.
maybe thats why i like these, they make the facist insticnts of their decor into something monstrous.
