Art Metropole and SAVAC have posted the audio from the public lecture Ephemeral Art in the Digital Age
with Janine Marchessault and Gunalan Nadarajan that was presented at the end of the replyALL project.
Perhaps it's just me, but I love the parts of Gunalan's talk where he speaks glowingly of my work. Funny, that.
yay!
Response from the upstarts at Misguided Concept.
Quote from the Misguided Concept post by Ginger. "Of particular concern, are the cases where theory is emphasized to the point that we (as viewers) become weighed down by terminology, explanation and interpretation in our experience of the works. Despite this relationship, something can also be gained through the application of theory, in that some sort of deeper meaning and attachment can be investigated. Both these things don’t happen simultaneously in every case but instead flex back and forth between high intellectual involvement and intuitive reaction."
As one of the people who helped organise the Reply All project (Art Metropole & SAVAC collaboration) I was really happy to hear the considered responses from both speakers. I like how Ginger points out that the pros and cons of applied art theory don't necessarily happen simultaneously. In my mind that means they don't cancel each other out.
