I am poaching this post from Ovvlvverk because, like millions of other people, I can't stop watching this owl... and the streaming comment feed is hilarious. People ask all the questions I have, like "What is she doing now?" "What is that noise?" "That baby looks weird, is it okay?" "Where's the male?" "When is the last egg gonna hatch?" etc. And then other people, who have been watching the darn thing 24-7 and know the score answer all the questions. And there are lots of really bad owl puns. Also the guy who set the whole thing up is a real ornithologist and every once in a while he comes on and gives little science talks about owls in another video window. And the footage is just gorgeous, especially the day time camera. And sometimes at night the father owl shows up with big dead rodents. Log in if you can, because, based on the owl's behaviour this morning, the last egg is supposedly gonna hatch today.

This thing is the best.
But I wanna know, when are they gonna come up with the pregnant swordfish cam website...
hard to get a swordfish to hang by the webcam. That's the problem with the Orca cams too. Every once in a while something swims by in the murky gloom. Owls work good cause you can tempt them into constant view by constructing their ideal nesting spot. By the way, in case anyone is wondering, there are four great honking owlets in there with her, she just sits on top of them all day. Stuffy, is what I'm thinking, but I guess they like it.
I like having this on while I work cause of all the pretty birdsong sounds.
Feline studio mate likes it too.
yup, same here.
Jesus, check this out. Just in time for Easter.
hard to tell what's happening in that picture.
I thought the owl was in captivity the first time. People were complaining about Mcgee not bringing her proper food and I assumed that he was human not owl. It ups the tension knowing that they are wild.
Whenever Carlos (the guy who built the box) shows up to talk he takes great pains to remind us that we are watching nature. "It's not scripted, and these aren't pets," he says, because everyone is waiting for that last egg to hatch and of course it might not hatch at all. He doesn't want us to get too upset about it.
Carlos just explained that the rabbits arrive without heads because McGee eats the heads himself. If you watch at night you can see him coming and going, dropping off corpses. Pretty well every time he comes in he jumps on Molly and they have a little nookie session. It's pretty cute. It's hard to get at good look at him because he's big. Mostly all you see is legs.
he's selling mugs now. pretty funny.
MUST ... HAVE ... MOLLY .... MUG.
In reality this is a USTREAM commercial. Works great!
He's raising money for a conservation fund in the San Marcos area. They're peddling an e-book too, that you can pre-order for around $3. This really started as a DIY hobby. The merchandising aspect has emerged when they realised that they were getting millions of views. And I was wrong before, he's not an ornithologist by trade...retired Navy guy.
My favourite comment so far (complaining about all the religious spam): "Unless Jesus is an owl, please use other means to brainwash."

new favourite comment: "Molly is going to hide the egg tomorrow and which ever chick finds it gets to eat it"
The owlets are now huge, with little owl-like faces. Still ugly though.
