Movement comma movement; collective dream 26 @253469

The official city of Toronto artist secure event zone taking place @253469 on Saturday June 26 from 8-11PM. Movement comma movement; collective dream 26 is a pro-global sub-atomic art particle summit of demanding short art films, irrational video and new sound and short performance. Security costs for this extra-ordinary one night art event have plummeted from an initial estimate of over one billion billion billion Canadian to a little over nothing.

Projected short film and video works beginning at 8PM by Angela Eileen De Crescenzo, Christina Kozak, Daeve Fellows, Karol Orzechowski, Robert Morpheal, Wesley Rickert and the original North American premier of "Fish Freezing Factory" 90 seconds, Lucy McKenna, (Ireland). Featured short live performance beginning at 9PM, including "Inverted space paper femme theater @253469" and other short performance works by Istvan Kantor, Art Szombathy, Nicole Torok, Christina Kozak, Ulysses Castellanos, 469 and 253. (Free stuff will be available)

253469 is an interdisciplinary art space that is not ruled by commerce, academia, politics or common sense. 253469 is currently located at 1267 Bloor Street West (just east of Lansdowne) and is generally mismanaged by 253 & 469.

Perhaps Istvan Kantor will have one of his hissy fits in front of Toronto's brand spanking new water cannon.

Here's another (sort of) art thing for the G20:

Also, very weirdly, I received this press release last week from ADAC, the Art Dealers Association of Canada:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION OF CANADA TO PRESENT THE WORK OF CANADIAN ARTISTS AT UPCOMING G8 AND G20 SUMMITS

10 June 2010 (Toronto) -- The Art Dealers Association of Canada (ADAC) is pleased to announce its leading role in developing a significant collection of Canadian visual art to be presented at the upcoming G8 and G20 summits, which are taking place in Huntsville, Ontario and Toronto respectively. Representing artists from across the country, the Canadian Collection will highlight many iconic names alongside some of the nation’s best emerging artists.

Said ADAC President Miriam Shiell, “This is certainly a formidable task. The number of artworks is daunting enough but that’s coupled with the challenge of composing an accurate and coherent snapshot of Canada’s diverse visual arts community.” Shiell adds, “Our national membership network of art dealers have stepped up to the plate by providing some of the country's finest works. Without that cooperation, the project would not be possible.”

Installed throughout both summit venues, the sprawling installation will be one of the largest visual art initiatives undertaken in this context. In addition to the participation of its member galleries, ADAC has invited Toronto curator William Huffman to provide overall thematics and design for the project. With a curator in place, development and installation of the Canadian Collection is being conceptualized as a national exhibition – providing an important Canadian, visual narrative for the numerous visiting international leaders. In exchange for its involvement, ADAC Foundation will receive a financial contribution. These funds will form seed capital for a developing endowment within the Foundation, aimed at providing its membership and individual artists with additional professional and developmental resources.

An official press conference is scheduled to take place just before the summit program begins.

The Art Dealers Association of Canada is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1966. The association was established to provide a professional platform that would set ethical standards for operating galleries, lobby government on issues affecting the visual arts and provide mentorship for younger associates. ADAC is the only national organization of private commercial galleries in Canada who collectively represent the country's leading artists. The ADAC mandate includes stimulating the art market in Canada and encouraging the awareness of the visual arts both nationally and abroad.
