Sick! I finally watched that cobra vs baby video. Was somewhat relieved to see a snake charmer's pot on the edge of the frame. But only somewhat. Would like to see the owner of the hand depositing the bird for the snake to eat...at the bottom of the ocean with concrete overshoes.

I second that sentiment, Tom.

I find the impulse to own a pet snake deeply weird.

I once went to a demonstration by a woman with a lot of exotic reptiles. I got to hold her boa constrictor around my shoulders. She told us that she used to keep the snake in the same room as the mice. But one day she came downstairs to find an exploded snake tank, a happy snake, and 0 mice. Apparently boas can expand as well as constrict.

This is why I prefer feather boas.

But...

"Additionally, feeding killed prey allows you to buy frozen prey items and stockpile them in the freezer so it is easier to have the proper sized prey on hand at all times."

I like the "frozen prey items" in a banality-of-evil kind of way. But is "prey" really the right word for a frozen item?

This episode of Radio Lab has some good stuff about live feeding in zoos.

I swear I saw fluffy yellow chicks running around loose in the bobcat cage at the Toronto zoo once. No idea how they got there. People loved it.

I had a neighbor in Brooklyn that had both pet rats and a pet snake. She said she cried every single time she "fed" the snake. She eventually gave it up.

Snakes don't exactly qualify as pets. Even if you had "Viperboy" living in the house, your only real interaction with him would be centred around supplying him with enough small mammals to eat every day.
