Aztec Stone Owl from Fed by Birds.
The Owles Almanac
Imagine a rather rude and insulting Mad-Magazine style parody of a horoscope/self-help column, but written 400 years ago: This is The Owles Almanac, from Thomas Middleton, The Collected Works (edition by Gary Taylor & John Lavagnino, Oxford Univeristy Press).
It may require a bit of scrolling/fiddling to find the relevant passages on Google Books, which are found around pages 1271 to 1300 in this online document, but your diligence will be most rewarded if you as easily amused as we are. His advice to Barber/Surgeons:
"You cunning cut-beards, never let your stomachs quail to suck your living out of festered sores, for "lucri bonus est odor" silver has a sweet sound; ask Vespasian the emporer else."
