anyone know anyone who knows anything about anywhere to eat in berlin? going for a week and don't eat sausages...
we ate well there for 3 nights two years ago using the Time Out Berlin Guide...one space had fantastic food and a great wine list and decor, the owner was pals with Damion Hirst(sp?) so the restaurant was covered with his old pill-ish paintings, hip crowd etc...the food is getting better too i hear.....will try to remember the names but Vau is the top $$ and class restaurant but we skipped for not wanting the suit stylie and fearing too much butter, but it could be a good lunch spot??
Maxwell drink Raveneau Chablis if they have any left!!
Mitte was fun for chowing you can see what they say about Maxwell and Vau etc....
we went here
(((Lutter & Wegner Charlottenstrasse 56 (2029 5410). U2, U6 Stadtmitte. Open 11am-2am daily. Main courses €15-€22. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V.
This place has it all: history (one of Berlin's earliest wine merchants, its champagne became known locally as 'Sekt', a word that now includes all sparkling white wine); atmosphere in its airy, elegant rooms with plenty of fresh flowers; great German/Austrian/French cuisine; and excellent service. The wine list is justifiably legendary, and if the prices look high, just head for the bistro, where the same list holds sway along with perfect salads, cheese and ham plates, and excellent desserts, as well as a more informal atmosphere.
Branch: Schlüterstrasse 55, Charlottenburg (881 3440)))
for the twisted (2 years ago) wine list (drank 69 Leroy Meursault) and just ate at the cheaper place, not bad....we found a portugese place with good food and wines from the 60's and 50's CHEAP too, looking for the name...
