i often had designs (without any design) on a few choice corners on spring st in what is now considered nolita. recently, cafe lebowitz opened on one such corner, which owing to its name, i was sure would be a failure. guess i was no less clueless than usual.

meanwhile, aka and alias get another plug from new york mag.

Last Thursday, I met Bill and his new friend, Cara, at the Local, after their movie. We tried to impress her with our local Epicurean acumen and connections. First we went to aKa, but they were having a private party. 71 Clinton was on vacation (not that it was a real option), but we tried Alias, where we waited briefly to see if an unconfirmed reservation would show or not. Cara perused the menu and declared that the place was ridiculously expensive, and that while "it's nice you've got friends", we should go to 6th St for Indian. I think Bill really wanted to go to The Hat, for old times' sake (and a slush-a-rita), but even they had a line ("But I could see three tables about to open up"), and we wound up in the tandoori sauna.
So the lesson is a) Always do whatever She says, or, b) We need even more restaurants on Clinton St…
