youch is anyone happy with amanda hesser?
one small voice for her here -she's fun when she's mean! cf the one-star review of katy sparks' new place uptown. cool! did y'all read that review of montrachet being stuck in the 80's and think, hey, no fair? i didn't! i loved it!
however - i think what's really happening is that hesser values ambience, decor, and service relatively more than other critics have. which is probably not the greatest thing in a food critic IMHO (ambience seems to me to be much MORE subjective than cuisine).
still, i'm having fun with these no- and one-star reviews. the spice market review was an outrageous hummer, obviously, and i'm sure she'll do it again any day now...but as long as she stays negative, she's ok w/me - speaking purely as a spectator, that is...
she's been replaced
Mr. Latte may be happy with her.
From gawker.com, 10 May:
"Everyone's favorite interim NYT restaurant critic Amanda Hesser is reading tonight at Coliseum Books -- on the (fake) promo site, it's billed as a "Talk, Reading, Signing, & Flogging." Come for the discussions about pie, but stay for the public crucifixion. We think some rowdy folks are going to nail her to a giant spoon."
