Chef/owner Sam Hayward is dedicated to the precept that simple food—very, very pure and good food&3151;is better than any amount of processing or saucing could ever be. His showcase is this handsome place in the old area of Portland, where meats, fish, and, especially, vegetables are treated to wood fire or roasted in an oven until their goodness shines forth. This may sound too plain, but the creations belie that. And the lively ambience and sheen of sophistication make a visit to Fore Street a happy time.
I have very fond memories of Portland Maine. I'd love to go back up there, but only in the summer. And I think summer there is like a month and a half long.

Sounds good. So far this summer we are going to Montana, Northern Italy, Southern Italy, Portugal, the Amazon, Montauk, Baltimore and now Maine. Probably I forgot one or two. I love you brother. You are the vacation planning maestro. Now if only we had frequent flyer miles from all the theoretical trips we were/are going to take, we might be able to afford to go to all these places. ;-)
