Shorty's .32 - 199 Prince St. at Sullivan. Super thumbs up. Best burger in New York. Amazing short ribs. Definitely worth a look. Dinner only. No reservations.
Shorty came up with Wiley through the Jean-Georges empire, but now has gone in something of the opposite direction doing absolutely perfect comfort food at his new 32 seat place. New York Mag, Eater, Andrea Strong.
Speaking of Wiley, have you eaten at Tailor?
Had to look it up, actually, as I just knew it as Sam Mason's place that never ever opens. Is it finally open now? I can't figure it out. I read some soft opening reviews, but nothing announcing its' public debut. I guess my "friends & family" pre launch invite got lost in the mail.
Anyway, I loved his desserts at WD. Just incredibly talented. So I guess I'll give it a shot and let you know.
This from the November issue of Gourmet: "In a lounge-y SoHo space with so much exposed wood that it calls to mind the phrase 'Bob-Villa-Industrial-Chic,' Tailor has finally opened. Sam Mason (whose previous gig was pastry chef at WD-50) has devised a crazy-fun sweet-and-savory menu with dishes like duck tartare; buttery, tender passion-fruit-poached char with lime pickle; and soft chocolate with smoked banana. Don't forget to order the "Bazooka," a vodka cocktail infused with -what else?-bubble gum."
yes the drinks (had the BOOZE-uka!!) and desserts are GREAT!!, have not tasted the other food items, but a foodie friend did and thought fantastic, interesting dress of staff and decor
