Relying in internet wisdom, I decided to season by cooking bacon in the oven. But 1/2 lb of bacon didn't render out enough grease to submerge the ridges. So I saved that grease, and cooked an addition pound of bacon. About 250 for three hours. That submerged the ridges. The resulting bacon is something I haven't seen before. It's fully rendered, but not crunchy. Weird. A lot of the bacon will be saved for training treats for the new Catahoula. I may have to make a sandwich out of some of it, for science.

how is the new pup doing?
Good. 72 lbs at six months. She's a beast. She's out of puppy II class, and will go to puppy III soon. A dog this big needs some skills (along with the biped at the other end of the leash).
She and the little dog lay well together. She knows how to "play little", and gets a talking to from the little dog if she oversteps.
I'm working on playing fetch with her. She's much easier to deal with when she's tired. Fetch is my secret weapon.
LOVELY!!
