A 25,000 square foot French food market called Le District is under construction with an opening slated for later this year. There is space for six new stand-alone restaurants, joining P.J. Clarke's, which is already open in the complex. Parenthetically, the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) will be relocating its campus to Brookfield Place from the Flatiron District next year, bringing thousands of culinary students to the area.
But first out of the box will be a collection of some of NYC's most celebrated fast casual and street food restaurants, which will share 35,000 square feet of communal space overlooking the Hudson River.
We've been watching the construction. Incredibly huge job. We walk through and around it every day on the way to school. Pretty prime location, but hard to judge how the restaurants will do there, as NYers seem to have a bit of a block in terms of crossing over the west side highway. On the other hand, there are a ton of people who live over there who probably have the opposite tendencies.
yeah but isnt eataly really touristy? thats who i imagine there and the downtown lunch crowd. plus a boon for the battery park locals. but i thought that french market might be nice for you especially as you are walking by it all the time.
Well, hope it opens soon. We are switching schools next year...
