To be fair, the critique is similar to the New York mag review, and seems to represent a sense of obligation (or condescension?) towards the readership's wants and needs. Your art analogy isn't that extreme: Picasso and Matisse are widely considered the top painters of the first half of the 20th century, and you can find people who rate Matisse as "better" simply because he's (perhaps superficially) more "accessible". Still, I was surprised at the stars, and could easily imagine the same review with a 3 star rating. (Of course, I have no clue 'cause I haven't actually eaten there...)
