It's about time. I'm always amazed how long it takes for the good food to get cranking in the summer. The window is not really that big (yeah, I'm just figuring this out now.) Anyway, I'm very happy it's starting to happen. Nice couple of months ahead of us. I hope the corn is better than last year. We really need to get some pictures up of the market.
I'll trade you the picture of your choice--limited to anything you can imagine I have access to in New Orleans--for a picture of the market.
O.K., you asked for it. Took me a couple of days longer because I couldn't get MB off her machine so that I could download my pictures. Man, uploading them all one by one to the server is a pain in the neck. Alex really likes us to do all the work he does on his page. My hat is off. Anyway here is an index of the pictures from the Union Square Green Market. I took these on Monday, in the afternoon. As Mike mentioned, a lot of the stuff is gone by mid morning (but getting up that early just wasn't in the cards for me.) So you definitely don't get a sense of how bustling it can be, but you can use your imagination. All the produce is locally grown and a lot is organic. I like hearing stories from the old time New Yorkers about how bad the produce use to be (ask Steve sometime what he thought moving here from Oregon in the early 80's.) I'm sure you know Jim, living here in the pre-green market days yourself. Now thanks to Union Square, everything is groovy.
Alright, you can guess what I want. Let's see that house.
