I know Tom alerted me to this a long time ago, but it was never fixed. If you have a comment thread with more than 1 comment, and you delete 1 comment from it, the link on your page will go back to zero comments ([add a comment]) even though there are still comments in the thread. Adding a new comment would reinstate the correct count, but of course you shouldn't have to do that.
Anyway, I believe this is now fixed.
Thanks. As you know I've recently had a need to delete comments from my page, but didn't want to clear the counter.
Has this given you any ideas about these situations? Probably just deleteing what you don't want is best. But there could be something like moderation points (like on slashdot, or kuro5hin) where you could mod a comment down if you didn't like it, and then it would still be there, but it wouldn't show by default. Then there'd be an option to show all comments if you wanted to see.
Doesn't really seem worth it in these cases.
Thanks for thinking about this. I generally like comments. But--and I guess it's not in the true democratic spirit of the Web--if someone from out there in Anger Land is just trying to bait me into a Monty Python "argument clinic" style argument I'm gonna zap the comment.
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"Not, not, not, not, and not."
