I like to visit web pages or comment anonymously sometimes before announcing myself. I could see having blanks for email addresses or urls as long as it said (optional) before the blank.

I ended up deciding not to use reference logging on most of my pages because I felt like it was outing people's self-searches (by picking up not just links but google searches), or links from pages that people wanted to keep within a circle of friends.
