Regarding Steve's query about adding a "preview" feature to the add-a-comment box (I can't find his question so I'm putting this here):
I'd say that would be a luxury, and I don't feel a super-strong need for it. If other people do, then I'd say it's fine for log-ins, but not for non-logged-in posters. I'm trying to encourage outside posts, and I'm afraid that too many options or instructions might be daunting. Someone not familiar with the system could inadvertently put up a "preview" or a "pending" and think they've actually posted, or get frustrated when their post didn't appear.
Yeah, I feel like you do. If you're signed in, then you can just [edit] the comment if it's not right. Probably no one is going to read it in the first 10 seconds after the original post.
Just curious Tom: do you have these pages on your front page so you can see when I comment back, or do you just check back? I don't think anyone really sees these /help pages except us.
Anybody else in here?
A few weeks ago, I put /help and /suggestions on my front page, using the /admin page. Before that I was just checking back.
I see 'em; I'm just helpless.
I don't see them. Tom posted a link to this page that got me here. Wow, it's like discovering a new room in the house you've been living in for two years. Am I nuts or is there a preview posting option? I could swear there used to be one. If only it took me ten seconds to correct a reply or post! I spent an hour correcting that reply to Tom's Penny Allen post in Cinefiles. I guess I'll just have to do what Alex does and write it out in a wordprocessing prog. and cut/paste.

OK, I found the page in the collum on the left of systemnews. The reason I never come to this page is because I don't get the new post or new comment announcements for this page. Is that feature available?
- steve 1-12-2002 6:12 pm [add a comment]
Yeah. If you go to /systemnews/suggestions/subscription (or click on [subscriptions] at the bottom of the /systemnews/suggestions page) you can adjust the tracking (off, new posts, new comments, or both new posts and new comments.) Also on that page you can click the box that says 'homepage' and that will add the page to your front page. If a page is already listed on your front page you will see a number below 'homepage' instead of a checkbox. Change this number and you'll change the order in which the pages are listed. Change the number to zero and that page will be removed from your front page.
To see all your subscriptions at once, click on [subscriptions] while on the front page. From that page you can adjust new post/comment tracking for multiple pages at once.
I'm rethinking the preview of comments.
