English speakers have borrowed several words from the Algonquian language family. Among these are: RACCOON, SKUNK, MISSISSIPPI, POW-WOW, MOOSE, SQUASH, TOMAHAWK, MOCCASIN, CHICAGO, WISCONSIN, and OPPOSUM.
