For my New Year's resolution, I promise this year to be nicer and more temperate politically in my posts.
NOT.
I mean, how about that twisted, Nixon-era relic Donald Rumsfeld, boasting that the U.S. can fight two wars simultaneously, neither of which has anything to do with bagging the Twin Towers murderers? We wouldn't be talking about any wars if the administration was halfway competent. The "axis of evil" rhetoric is what got us to this point with Korea, and Iraq is another fight we're picking.
One of the secretaries where I work said that when Rumsfeld was on TV during the Afghanistan bombing, a lot of women thought he was "hot." Sorry to be patronizing here, but c'mon, ladies! Is it that he's a confident Daddy figure, or is it the edge of violence that makes him so attractive? I mean, grow up.
it's the daddy thing.
re the two wars, we fucking BETTER be able to fight and win 2 wars at once, cuz we're paying a lot of $$ to be able to do so.
but of course it's quite gauche to actually go and SAY SO.
you're kidding. his head is an i can't believe it's not buttered piece of popcorn. i have much better taste!
gauche was not the word I was thinking of and way to blast over half the population of the planet based on a single sample opinion tom, good start. Arn't women majority share holders of the anti-war position (based on an equally non scientific survey) ?
Not after 9/11! And geez, I really hope half the population doesn't find Rumsfeld sexually attractive.
On the other hand, we don't want the man frustrated...
"c'mon ladies" !?
Hey, did ya know that the fox news channel has a website? it's at www.foxnews.com. and they don' t just cover politics -- they do lifestyle and trend stories too! Like this one, from November, 2001:
HEROISM IS HOT: WOMEN LOVE MANLY MEN
All about Dapper Daddy Don!
Excerpt (thanks, big jimmy):
"He has this way about him that no matter what, he is going to get the job done," said Christy Faustmann, an event marketing manager in New York City. "He is going to avenge what happened. He is going to defend this country."
Faustmann added that even though Rumsfeld is a tough leader, he also seems like a softy at heart. "He has a jovial side. He's got this little smirk that puts you at ease," she said. "He has an amazing ability to lead and be humble in his approach, which is extremely attractive."
I have to make my standard disclaimer here that 9/11 was horrific beyond words, and of course everyone desperately wanted assurances that something was being done etc. But Rumsfeld and his ilk had also been waiting for their chance--in the notes from his meeting the week of 9/11 he was talking about locking it all up, taking out Saddam, pushing forward the whole War Party agenda. The Fox story is straight from the propaganda/spin arm of the War Party. Make war sexy! But the little smirk and avuncular demeanor hide a dark soul--he's a relic of the Cold War, who knows only perpetual conflict. I don't feel the least bit safer in his hands. We need new solutions to a new kind of conflict, not the same old ones (and no, I'm not talking about assassination by Predator missile). All I'm asking for here is a little more skepticism and a little less romance.
Rumsfeld was also our liaison to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war while they were gassing people, with help from our military satellite intelligence to let them know where the Iranian troops were.
Re-reading these comments 17 years later, in particular the concern trolling about "blasting half the population." As John Cleese says, "woke people have no sense of humor."
