Saddam's Capture: An Objective Report (Originally posted 5 hours ago on dratfink's page.) Just got back from brunch--saw the clip of the doctor probing Saddam's mouth about 15 times on the restaurant TV. Then the staff turned up the sound so we could all listen to Jr's platitudinous speech, after which they applauded.
oh no.
The owner and employees of the restaurant come from a country that has...let's just say, been oppressed by Communism, so they tend to be more aligned with the US's right wing leadership. Most of the restaurant patrons didn't react visibly to Bush's teleprompted speech; I was yakking throughout and got an appraising glance from some of the staffers.
One friend says I have my "head in the sand" because I don't watch CNN or the other networks, and that's why I'm shocked when they run the humiliating clip of Saddam's oral probing over and over and over. I'd say I'm plenty informed about TV shenanigans from the Internet and don't need to bathe in toxic sludge every day. More people than me should be shocked by the blatant propaganda tactics in "Saddam the Series: From Demonization to Capture."
I think it is good strategy not bathing in the toxic sludge everyday but probably a side effect of that is the extreme shock you feel that others are numb to, and the askance glances when you speak what would seem simple truth. I don't feel I have room for any of it right now, I mean I already "got" it with this administration. Dwelling on too many of the ridiculous details seems like self-flagellation, although to the extent it inspires one to produce work I say, hell yes, give me more. Nice job on the saddam head, morbid yet colorful.
