Nice stuff Tom. Have you checked out the animations of Greg Egan?
Egan, as you probably already know, is one of the best science fiction writers alive.

I strongly recommend reading "Oceanic", one of the best stories ever (here's a teaser: your dick isn't proprietary), and all of his other great ground breaking stories. But check out his animated gifs as well...I think he's using some more complicated software based on something called "math", but you might find something there worth stealing...
