made me think of moore

interesting mix of kinetic (complex motion) and calm (smooth forms)

yup, this is really good and bears a lot of looking. (I mostly dislike Henry Moore but that one you linked to, Mark, is a local landmark that I've come be a grudgingly fond of. It's nice that kids climb on it and peek through the hole.)

I love the animation and I love that most of the comments on it were posted in the wee hours of the morning.

Thanks for the comments! I'm feeling pretty good about this one. I added some more frames today.

thing 35 framesthing 284 x 214

The one on the left is 35 frames; the right, 27.
"Variations" is a good suggestion. Also I'd like to see how long, time-wise, one could get.

I prefer the first one with fewer frames, where your brain has to fill in the motion - for me that fleeting confusion is part of the intrigue .

Hmmm. The added frames weren't filling in motion. I added a couple of new shapes in the middle of the sequence and then did transition frames to those shapes. In other words, the first 10 and last 10 frames of the original sequence weren't affected at all--just 6 or so in the middle. It may be that adding motifs gives the brain time to "suss out" what's going on, thus making it more conventional. Thanks for your comment.

there is a frame or two where blobs near the top have separated from the mass and hang as discrete balls - this stage seems more important in the shorter version, and I think maybe that's where the tension is coming from.
