Has blogger been having trouble lately? 7CR said that it "...[s]eems like blogger finally blew up under the weight of it's own crapulence. You can't get that much bullshit together in one spot and not expect it to reach critical mass." I'm glad he's not commenting on this system. But what's the deal? Dave?

i guess its kind of slow and ive had some timeout problems but i never know where the problem is initiated. they said the rapid increase in usage has pushed them up against their limits. i think i read they were up to 60000 blogs.

  • I guess some people have lost parts of their archives too, but if they were only storing them on the blogger server that's pretty much the individuals fault (for not backing up their data.) For instance, your archives (dave) are on the blogger server(s) and on the digitalmediatree server, so it would be pretty unlikely you could lose them. Still, I guess if the blogger search function looks through the archive then you want them to be complete on the blogger server. They should make some way to re-sync the archives from an external directory in case they lose data. For the rest of you, your posts are all in a database on the digitalmediatree server, plus the database is backed up on the same server, plus their is a copy of the backup on my machine (well, on a zip disk really.) The only danger is that I don't back up to my machine as often as I should. There is a chance that a catastrophe could happen (very unlikely) at the absolute worst time, in which case you could lose a week or so of posts (however long its been since I sucked down the 15 to 20 megs of data over my 56k dial up.) When we get the new server set up the backups will become a daily procedure.
